권혜경은 REMEMBER ME 에서 점점 기억에서 사라지는 울산의 상징적인 모티브를 회화설치작업으로 선보인다. 1962년 울산시는 특정공업지구로 지정되어 빠르게 변화되어 왔다. 이후, 지속적인 현대화 과정은 많은 것들이 과거가 되어 잊혀지게 되었다. 그녀는 1966년 창간된 향토지의 ‘태화강변의 기적’, 1975년 한국 최초의 고유모델로 생산된 현대자동차의 ‘포니’ 등 울산의 과거를 상징하고 기념하는 이미지를 통해 한국 근대의 시간을 불러낸다. 이 작업을 통해 그 시간을 살았던 노동자의 삶과 수고 또한 기억하고자 한다.
REMEMBER ME is a painting installation based on a collection of symbolic motifs about Ulsan that is fading away from people’s memories. Since 1962, when Ulsan was designated as a specific industrial zone, many things has become forgotten and disappeared as fast as the city has become modernized. This work reflects on the memories of Ulsan by including images such as ‘The Miracle of Taehwa River’, which is a local magazine of Ulsan that began publishing in 1966, and Hyundai Motors’ Pony, which is the first original car manufactured in Korea. I would also like to call our attention to the hard life of workers, who lived through this period.
